A calculation based on applicable standards
With the LPS Manager application, you quickly obtain a recommendation on the protection level to apply for a building, a structure and more broadly for a site. The calculation of the protection level in LPS Manager is based on the standards in force within the framework of document FD C 17-108:2017 (or simplified IEC 62305 standard).
Source AFNOR (FD C 17-108 – January 18, 2017):
”The document FD C 17-108 is based on the IEC 62305-2 standard, from December 2012.
The method is said to be simplified in that it includes only a limited number of parameters compared to the so-called complete method of the IEC 62305-2 standard, from December 2012.
As a result, it applies only to structures:
– for which the fire risk is low or ordinary;
– for which the fire risk is high but the panic risk is low;
– which contain no explosive products or atmosphere;
– which present no danger to the environment.”
Lightning protection level (LPL)
Number linked to a set of values of lightning current parameters as to the probability that the associated maximum and minimum design values will not be exceeded when lightning occurs naturally. NOTE: The LPL is used to design protection measures according to the appropriate set of lightning current parameters. The protection level can take values I to IV. (IEC 62305 Definition) Level I is the highest safety level.
90% of cases with LPS Manager
The use of LPS Manager is suited to a large number of lightning protection system cases, however in the context of a calculation for a complex structure or not meeting the criteria of FD C 17-108:2017, we advise you to contact your engineering firm.
100% of cases in LPS Manager
If the calculation of the protection level cannot be done with LPS Manager, you can enter it directly in the application after having calculated it yourself according to the complete method of the IEC 62305 standard. If you cannot do it yourself, we advise you to call on a specialized engineering firm. The collection of information and its sharing in LPS Manager will be essential for proper handling of your case.
